Soli Deo Gloria

As we look at our lives and examine our relationship with God, do we actually bring glory to Him alone?  Soli Deo Gloria is a Latin phrase that was the hearts cry of the early reformers of our faith (i.e. Luther, Calvin, Zwingli) it literally means "Only God Glory" or in the English vernacular: "Glory to God Alone."  This should be the purpose of our lives as we define our life's aim.

Daniel Renstrom's latest

Daniel is a good friend of mine and he's releasing an album celebrating Christ's Incarnation next week (October 27th). I'm assuming you can get it on iTunes since his last album is up there. While your purchasing this album you should buy his last CD. Laurie and I often listen to "fear and tremble" while we're getting ready for bed at night - awesome song writer and theologically and doctrinally sound. That's a hard combination to find these days in the music world.

The above Average of the bellow Average

C.J. Mahaney often claims he is a bellow average pastor but for those of us who revere him as a spiritual hero and love his works and his ministry would claim he is an above average pastor. Thankful for men like this who serve the church and her pastors lovingly and humbly.

A Final Farewell but not for Long

The hot and humid air was unavoidable, and I'm starting to think that putting on my suite jacket may have been a bad idea. The crowd begins to assemble under the shade of two tall old Pine trees. Everyone stands behind a single women who is as stoic and dignified as a soldier standing in formation. Her strength gives us all the wonderful gift of composure on a tough day for all. Men, women, babies and teenagers coming together for a common purpose. Everyone assembled has been directly or indirectly touched by a man who served God for well over seventy years. The evidence of God's blessings on his life are displayed in the stories shared. The testimony of his life is a beautiful picture of the Gospel.

As I step toward the podium I'm overwhelmed with the comfort of the Holy Spirit while quoting James 1:2-4. The scripture is telling of Christ's reward for those who persevere through the tests and trials of this life. The reward is glorification in eternity with our Creator. Today Lewis James Howard Sr. is finally at rest with his Maker and he calls out to all of us, even through his physical death, the message of the Gospel. Thank you God for using my Grandfather to usher in a legacy of the Gospel in my families life.

Maybe Lifeway bookstore isn't that bad after all.

So I used to think that our LifeWay in Mobile was horrible. After spending about 30 minutes in the Family bookstore I realized that in comparrison that LifeWay book stores are not as bad as I once thought. This constituted everything this bookstore had on anything theological/bible reference. As you see bellow, LifeWay at least has an intire shelf devoted to Theology - of course they lose marks for putting next to the Church growth section but earn some of them back because they have four shelves devoted to bible refrence and commentary (this only constitutes about 3% of their total shelf space @ LifeWay - which is better that .5% shelf space in the Family books store).

This is awesome maybe this author atempted to carry on Thomas Jefferson's legacy and just delete anything in the bible that didn't suit his purposes. Clearly this is the bible's "Best Of" C.D. All the other things it had to say was ok but not good enough to make it in this volume.

This is a must read for any serious Christian. Actually I think we may have hit rock bottom with this book - I feel sorry for the publisher, they must be the laughing stock of the Publisher's conventions - if they're not then we've got a serious problem. Chances are we have a serious problem!
